Liverpool handed boost in pursuit of 23-year-old Bundesliga star

Liverpool have been given a boost in their apparent pursuit of Red Bull Leipzig’s Timo Werner as Bayern Munich have reportedly cooled their interest in the forward.

The Metro reported that the Reds were in the race to sign the German international, but Bayern were considered favourites to land the 23-year-old.

Now it’s being suggested, as per Inside Futbol, that the Bavarians are putting Werner on the back burner as they hope to tie up a deal for Manchester City’s Leroy Sane.

The forward is being tipped to stay with Leipzig for the upcoming season, but if the current circumstance is to be believed then Jurgen Klopp may see an opportunity.

Bayern and Leipzig are miles apart in terms of how much they value Werner – via Bild, his current club consider him worth around £50million whereas the German champions don’t want to spend more than £20million.

The striker scored 19 goals last season, in the league and DFB Cup, and is surely worth the £50millon Leipzig are reportedly asking for in the current market.

Klopp has previously plucked Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan and Naby Keita from the Bundesliga so he clearly keeps an eye on his homeland’s league.

Werner would certainly be an impressive coup for the Champions of Europe, and the forward would be breathing down Bobby Firmino’s neck for a place in the starting XI every week.
