According to RB Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick, Liverpool transfer target Naby Keita doesn’t currently look close to signing a new contract deal anytime soon.
The 22-year-0ld youngster has been heavily linked with Liverpool for much of this summer after a storming season in the Bundesliga last season.
The Merseyside giants are reported to have had two offer rejected for the Guinea international this summer, with Leipzig thought to be holding out for over £75m for the talented midfielder.
Leipzig may be at risk of losing Naby Keita next summer when a £48m release clause comes into effect, with top clubs sure to come back in for him in a year’s time.
Still, the Bundesliga club don’t seem hopeful of changing the situation by getting their No.8 to commit to a new contract deal at the moment.
Discussing his future, Rangnick gave little information, but confirmed once again that he expected Naby Keita to be staying at RB Leipzigfor this season at least.
‘I am not currently assuming that we will be able to extend his contract prematurely,’ Rangnick told Sport Bild.
‘I can assure you that Naby is playing with us this season. All other scenarios also depend on how we do this season, how Naby plays himself and so on.’
