Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has ruled out an exit for winger Ousmane Dembele this summer.
The French winger was linked with Liverpool in some quarters this weekend, leading to Jurgen Klopp to jokingly declare his interest in the 20-year-old.
Dembele, who signed for Barcelona for an initial €105 million from Dortmund last summer, has suffered an injury hit first season at the Camp Nou, scoring just three goals in 20 appearances.
Valverde says that the Frenchman needs more time to settle in at the club – and that Barcelona are preparing for next season with Dembele.
“We have to realise he just got here. He’s had some injuries and getting playing time in our team is not easy,” he said.
“He’s an incredible talent, technically outstanding, he’s quick, a difference-maker.
“Maybe he needs to work on defence a little bit and some other areas. Maybe putting on pressure after we lose the ball.
“But we know he’s young, he’s had a tough season and we hope he will continue to develop next year.”
Liverpool boss Klopp was asked about Dembele following Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
The Reds boss was quizzed on both the Barcelona winger and Nabil Fekir, who has been linked with a £60m move from Lyon.
