Liverpool fans will love what’s happened to Lucas Leiva on FIFA 19

Liverpool look set to be one of the strongest teams on FIFA 19.

Following a season in which the Reds reached the final of the Champions League, player ratings have increased across the board.

Mohamed Salah has an 88 rating while Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are both rated 86.

The new additions look useful, too.

Fabinho and Alisson Becker are both 85 and Naby Keita is 83.

That rating is the same one handed to a Liverpool cult hero.

Lucas Leiva, who spent 10 years at Liverpool before joining Lazio in 2010, has undergone a remarkable transition in the latest edition of the EA Sports game.

In FIFA 18, he had a 79 rating.

That included 45 pace, 71 dribbling and 69 passing.

Those numbers were, naturally, down on FIFA 17, and reflected a player who had passed his peak.

But incredibly, EA Sports have breathed new life into the Brazilian midfielder in FIFA 19.

He has an overall rating of 83, with 67 pace, 78 dribbling and 76 passing.

For a 31-year-old, that’s remarkable.

At that age, his stats aren’t supposed to be going higher.

But it comes following Lucas’ impressive debut season at Lazio.

He made 50 appearances in all competitions and was named the club’s Player of the Season.

He beat Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to the award, although he was helped out by Liverpool fans influencing the Twitter vote.

Still, fair play Lucas.

His 83 rating is higher than that handed to Man United midfielder Fred, who is 82-rated.

Perhaps the Red Devils signed the wrong Brazilian in the summer.

Lucas left Liverpool on pleasant terms following a decade at Anfield.

He established himself as a fan favourite, helping the Reds win the League Cup in 2012.

And Liverpool supporters will no doubt love his FIFA boost.
