Liverpool fans think the fresh twist on Marko Grujic is ‘a blessing in disguise’

Liverpool fans have to excited heading into the 2018-19 season.

The Reds are being talked about as Premier League challengers and it’s easy to see why.

More than £150 million has been spent to improve a squad that reached the final of the Champions League last season.

Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alisson Becker are instant starters, while Xherdan Shaqiri will serve as a backup to the front three.

Jurgen Klopp has to be happy with the work of sporting director Michael Edwards this summer.

Recent weeks have been spent trying to offload the players who are surplus to requirements, including Danny Ings and Divock Origi.

One player whose future has just taken a turn is Marko Grujic.

The Serbian midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at Cardiff City and he was expected to rejoin the promoted club on a temporary basis.

However, Grujic now looks set to stay at Liverpool after Cardiff boss Neil Warnock admitted a “contract issue” had put an end to his proposed switch to The Bluebirds.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have been reluctant to allow Grujic to leave on loan until the 22-year-old, whose current deal expires in 2020, pens an extension.

Yet Grujic is unwilling to do so, and so he’s set to stay at Anfield.

“Grujic looks like he will stay put… I think he would be better off here but it is a contract issue, I understand his point of view,” Warnock said.

“Liverpool have four competitions before Christmas and he can play in those without being named in the 25-man squad.

“I have missed out on a couple of targets waiting for him. It is disappointing as everything was agreed with Liverpool. But sometimes fate intervenes.”

Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news and they believe it could be a blessing in disguise.
