If you asked Jurgen Klopp what he wanted from Liverpool’s first Premier League match, he might have said a comfortable 4-0 victory with new signings impressing and no injuries.
If he did say that, Klopp got his wish.
Goals from Mohamed Salah, Daniel Sturridge and a Sadio Mane brace sealed an easy three points at Anfield, while Naby Keita looked brilliant on his full debut.
Mane’s second goal to make it 3-0 came in the 53rd-minute and, from then on, Liverpool were on easy street.
Klopp even had the luxury of bringing off Roberto Firmino, Mane and Salah.
Coming on for Mane with eight-minutes remaining was £13 million summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri.
Shaqiri was snapped up by relegated Stoke in the summer and has looked brilliant in pre-season – scoring an overhead kick against Manchester United being the highlight.
But even before the Swiss International took to the pitch, Liverpool fans were loving him.
As he was waiting to be introduced, Shaqiri was given a typical hug from Klopp.
But it was Shaqiri’s reaction that Liverpool fans enjoyed.
He genuinely looked like a little boy looking up at his father.
