What a memorable night on Anfield it was for Liverpool.
The Merseyside club went into their tie with Manchester City as the underdogs, but there was still a belief around Anfield that they could pull off an upset.
And they were right.
Buoyed on by a raucous crowd, Liverpool absolutely tore Manchester City apart in the first half.
From the outset Jurgen Klopp’s side were by far the better team, and the away side could not cope.
Mohamed Salah got the home side off to a fantastic start when he converted from close range. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain then made it two when he struck home from range, before Sadio Mane headed home to give Liverpool a 3-0 lead going into half-time.
SADIO MANE SCHOOLED NICHOLAS OTAMENDI
Liverpool were absolutely untouchable in the first half, with Man City defenders all at sea.
Mane was instrumental in attack in the opening 45 minutes, but one moment in particular had Liverpool fans raving.
After picking up the ball in a dangerous position just inside the box with five minutes remaining in the first-half, Mane found Ncholas Otamendi standing in his way.
But Mane made light work of his opponent, with Otamendi falling over rather embarrassingly after some nice trickery from the Senegalese international.
