Liverpool fans love what Van Dijk did during his celebration after scoring vs Everton

It was always going to be a tough night for Virgil van Dijk making his debut in a Merseyside derby.

Having signed from Southampton for £75 million just a few days ago, the Dutchman was thrown straight into action in the FA Cup against Everton.

And Van Dijk looked as though he had been at the club for a while as he ordered his teammates around immediately. To be fair, he’d probably mentally been at Liverpool at five months ever since his move to the club broke down in the summer.

And Van Dijk couldn’t have wished for a better debut – even if he did have to wait half a season for it.

Imagine making your debut at Anfield against Everton on a Friday night in the FA Cup and scoring the winner in the 84th-minute at the Kop End.

Yeah, not a bad way to mark your debut.

But it wasn’t just his goal that Liverpool fans loved – it was what he did afterward.

Many supporters noticed that Van Dijk celebrated by tapping the Liverpool badge on his shirt.

It seems he loves the club already and the fans love him.

Just check out the reaction on Twitter:

And Van Dijk said all the right things in his post-match interview after the game.

“What a night! The win was fully deserved, obviously,” he said on BBC.

“It was amazing to be out there and playing with these guys. The goal was very special for me and my family.

“Playing at Anfield for Liverpool is a dream for every player I think. To score a goal is even more special.”

Liverpool have a new hero…
