Liverpool fans are tweeting the same message to Sergio Ramos after Russia beat Spain

Spain have been knocked out of the World Cup in the Round of 16 after suffering a shock defeat against tournament hosts Russia.

La Roja took a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Sergei Ignashevich own goal but Artem Dzyuba levelled the scores before half-time.

Spain dominated possession and completed over 1,000 passes but couldn’t break down their stubborn opponents, who advanced to the quarter-finals after winning the penalty shoot-out 4-3.

While Spain were far superior technically, they seemed to run out of ideas every time the ball reached the final third.

Russia nullified the 2010 world champions and then beat them on penalties, with Koke and Iago Aspas both missing from the spot.

Spain, who replaced their manager Julen Lopetegui with Fernando Hierro on the eve of the tournament, were one of the favourites to win this World Cup.

They were expected to breeze past Russia and set up a quarter-final tie against either Croatia and Denmark. But they’ll now be leaving Moscow within the next 24 hours.

LIVERPOOL FANS HAVE BEEN TWEETING SERGIO RAMOS
One set of fans who seem to be delighted with this outcome are Liverpool supporters.

Why? Because it means Sergio Ramos has been dumped out of the World Cup.

As soon as ex-Red Aspas missed his decisive penalty, Liverpool fans immediately took to Twitter to mock Ramos.

They all have the same message for the Real Madrid defender: this is karma for the role he played in injuring Mohamed Salah during May’s Champions League final.
