Liverpool fans are loving Oxlade-Chamberlain for what he said after 5-0 win v Swansea

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a fine volleyed finish in Liverpool’s 5-0 thrashing of Swansea City on Tuesday evening.

The former Arsenal midfielder endured a torrid start to life at Liverpool but fans have witnessed a stark improvement in his performances.

German manager Jurgen Klopp last week suggested that Oxlade-Chamberlain was misused by Arsene Wenger.

“I think the biggest improvement and potential [with Oxlade-Chamberlain] is being involved in goalscoring situations,” Klopp explained. “It is unbelievable but he was not asked for this too much in the past.

“For all the qualities he has, his goalscoring record can improve. It’s not that I can give him a number and say he has to score 15 times a season.

“He has the obvious skills – shooting, both feet, speed. Where’s the limit? I don’t know. It’s something we know he will be better at in the future.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain spoke to Sky Sports after the game and gave a refreshingly honest post-match interview in which he spoke candidly about his own performance.

He produced an excellent finish in the 83rd minute but definitely will not be out celebrating.

“I was a bit disappointed with myself today, although I’m happy I managed to get the goal,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told Sky Sports. “When the chance came at the end I was happy to put it away.

“In the first half we did OK and we stepped it up in the second half.

“I just want more out of myself. I could have done better with my end product a few times. Overall it could have been better.

“I just want to keep pushing myself on to do better. It’s important for me [to score]. Today it [the goal] wasn’t so crucial as we were leading by a few but I need to keep doing that. There were some great goals today. We defended well overall.”
