Liverpool fans all loved Phil Thompson’s reaction to Salah’s goal v Man City on SSN

When the Champions League quarter-final draw was made, few expected that Liverpool would overcome the challenge of Manchester City.

Just a month ago the Citizens were flying.

Whilst dominating the Premier League, many expected that they would add the Champions League title to go alongside their domestic success.

But then Liverpool came along.

Jurgen Klopp’s side stunned Man City last week in their first leg of the tie, scoring three first half goals to take a 3-0 lead to the Etihad Stadium.

And Liverpool would finish the job in Manchester on Tuesday, where they triumphed 2-1 on the night, sealing their passage to the semi-finals.

Liverpool did not have it their own way, though.

Man City were rampant in the opening 45 minutes, and could have been more than 1-0 up going into the break.

The Reds were struggling massively, and there is no doubt that Liverpool fans were extremely anxious going into the second half.

But Mohamed Salah eased those nerves 10 minutes after the restart when he struck home to clinch a vital away goal for Liverpool.

The fans in the away end went absolutely mad, and it can be said in confidence that Liverpool fans watching the game at home across the world felt the same way.

And Phil Thompson did too.

Covering the game live on Sky Sports News, it was clear that the Liverpool legend was uneasy going into the second half.

But his relief was evident when he went crazy celebrating Salah’s goal.
