Three of the Premier League’s top five clubs are reportedly interested in signing versatile full back Elseid Hysaj.
The Albania international is currently contracted to Napoli, but his deal includes a release clause worth €50million (£43.72m) — which Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea view as an affordable price, according to Sportitalia.
Chelsea are said to be furthest down the line in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, with the report claiming that Hysaj’s agent has held face-to-face talks with the Stamford Bridge outfit on multiple occasions.
Hysaj can operate on either side of a defensive unit but he is most comfortable at right back.
Chelsea have rotated between Victor Moses and Davide Zappacosta at right back this season, with the latter’s future in west London uncertain after an underwhelming debut campaign.
Hysaj would likely struggle to dislodge regular captain Antonio Valencia on the right side of United’s defence were he to move to Old Trafford, but his ability to fill in on the left may tempt manager Jose Mourinho to make a move.
Six of Hysaj’s 38 starts in Serie A and Europe this season came at left back as he deputised for injury-hit star Faouzi Ghoulam.
Liverpool have used Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne at right back this term.
