Liverpool desperate to sign 29-year-old Barcelona star but Lionel Messi blocks the transfer

BARCELONA star Jasper Cillessen wants to pack his bags – and Lionel Messi isn’t happy.

The Dutch international played second fiddle to Marc-Andre ter Stegen last season. He was regularly deployed in the Copa del Rey and – according to Spanish news outlet Don Balon – Messi is a massive fan.

The diminutive superstar thinks Cillessen has an important role to play next term and was impressed with his cup cameos. But Cillessen is fed up with being an understudy and is reportedly angling for an exit.

Liverpool have been touted as potential suitors and Don Balon say the 29-year-old is keen on an Anfield switch. The Reds are widely expected to scour the transfer market for a new goalkeeper.Loris Karius’ calamitous performance in the Champions League final against Real Madrid last month could end his Liverpool career. But they have been left frustrated in their hunt for an alternative option between the sticks.

Roma and Brazil star Alisson was a top target. The Serie A side wanted at least £80m to part with their prized asset though.

Cillessen has a £53m buyout clause in his contract, but Barcelona could sell for much less this summer. He was a £13m arrivals from Dutch heavyweights Ajax in 2016.
