Liverpool confirm interest in signing of £100m-rated Premier League star

Liverpool have coveted Ruben Neves for some time.

The Reds were linked with a move for the midfielder last summer, but Wolves held onto their man for their first season back in the top-flight.

A former Porto star, the Portuguese international headed to Molineux in 2017 on the back of advice from super-agent Jorge Mendes to join up with numerous fellow countrymen.

A terrific season in the Championship saw him named in the EFL’s Team of the Year, and a highlight reel of stunning goals came all too real for Liverpool when he dumped Jurgen Klopp’s men out of the FA Cup with a long-range effort.

In an interview with Portuguese outlet O Jogo (translated by the Metro), Klopp’s assistant Pepijn Lijnders said:

“I know him very well, his ambition, his passion for the game, his professionalism… I know what he gives to the team and this type of players always interest us.

“I recognised him when I saw him at Wolves. I saw technique, professionalism; I saw the 2013/14 player I knew.”

The Dutchman was academy coach at Porto when Neves passed through, before eventually heading to Liverpool in 2014.
