Liverpool Completing Standard Procedures to Sign 5ft11 League One Defender

Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly had scouts watching Port Vale defender Nathan Smith this weekend, according to The Daily Star.

Stoke City and Championship side Norwich City are also supposedly keen on the youngster.

Arsenal and Liverpool had scouts at The Valley, watching Charlton beat Port Vale 2-0 and while it is common knowledge that Ademola Lookman was being tracked, it has now emerged that Nathan Smith was also on their radar.

Nathan Smith has only just broken into the Port Vale first team this year after successful loan spells with Stafford Rangers and Torquay United over the past two seasons.

Smith won Torquay’s player of the season award last year and was described by manager Kevin Nicholson as a “freak of nature” in a positive way.

Bruno Ribeiro introduced him to League One Port Vale’s starting XI this term and he has already handed Nathan Smith 18 games this season and the centre half has repaid him with solid and assured displays as well as two goals already.

The 20-year-old has a contract with Port Vale which runs until the summer of 2020 and he is thought to be valued at around £1.5m.

Smith has previously been described as “brave as a lion” and he is known for his tenacity and hardworking nature.
