Klopp the joker
Jurgen Klopp is currently the darling of the English media, and it’s not hard to see why.
The German is a welcome reprieve from the dour, traditional old school English football men who generally populate the Premier League, and his natural wit and humour mean he’s always entertaining to watch.
Mourinho once held the role of media darling, but his world-weariness and cynicism have seen his popularity dwindle.
Unlike the Portuguese, Klopp is yet to become cynical, and remains extremely positive and optimistic about the world.
Which means that when he’s asked a question, he is naturally funny and un-calculated.
Sold Benteke because he broke his glasses
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s game with Manchester City on New Year’s Eve, Christian Benteke was brought up, and Klopp was asked about the circumstances surrounding his move to Crystal Palace.
Of course, we all know that the real reason was because Benteke didn’t score or contribute enough, so Klopp came up with a joke answer, citing the fact that Benteke broke his glasses during the epic celebrations at Norwich last season:
‘They were absolutely broken! In the picture, I have them in my hands.
“It was Christian Benteke who did it. So don’t kill my glasses or otherwise you will be sold!”
