LIVERPOOL have been backed to spend a lot on Roma star Alisson after missing out on Nabil Fekir.
The Brazil international is in huge demand after a standout season for Roma, where he broke into the first team. It has seen him as the preferred option in the World Cup starting XI this summer to Ederson, who won the Premier League with Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are in desperate need of a goalkeeper as highlighted by Loris Karius in the Champions League final. His two mistakes were cruelly dealt with as Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale capitalised on the German stopper’s errors.
The Reds are still reeling from their transfer embarrassment this weekend after Lyon pulled out of the Nabil Fekir deal.
Everything was in place for the France playmaker to be announced this weekend but under mysterious circumstances, the Ligue 1 club pulled out.
It has left Anfield chiefs red-faced, but reports suggest that it will not stop their pursuit of him or other targets. And ESPN pundit Shaka Hislop has urged the Merseyside outfit to go all out for Alisson this summer.
Asked who the Reds should sign this summer, Hislop told ESPN FC: “Alisson. I’d pay a lot. I think so.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to ensure their continued participation in the Champions League.
It is a major boost to their transfer plans to attract the best players, and alternatives to Alisson have also been looked at.
Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak would be the ideal replacement, but the Spanish club are demanding around £75m for the Slovenian.
Jack Butland of relegated Stoke would be a cheaper option but there are worries over whether or not he is better than the current crop of keepers.
