Liverpool have approached AS Monaco to sign Thomas Lemar for €60million (£55m) which is a potentially club record smashing deal.

It might just be that Liverpool aren’t as seriously interested in signing the Englishman as previously thought with Jason Burt reporting for The Telegraph that AS Monaco’s Thomas Lemar has been the subject of an inquiry from the Reds.

Ironically, given the events of the weekend and Liverpool’s reported interest in Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arsenal have held something of a long term interest in Thomas Lemar.
Liverpool made an inquiry for Lemar, according to Burt. Although the approach was made earlier this summer, it remains active as Jürgen Klopp seeks to bring new faces in before Thursday’s deadline.
With Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva joining City, Tiemoue Bakayoko signing for Chelsea and kid wonder Kylian Mbappe on the verge of making a crazy move to Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco are loath to see Lemar depart as well.
With Lemar considered by Monaco as a rising star in French football, the Ligue 1 club is aware that they can command a greater fee next summer than already offered to them.
For Liverpool, signing the 21-year-old will take strong willed negotiating and an extraordinary financial offer to see Monaco diminish their stance.
With the transfer window closing in four days, sporting director Michael Edwards will need to act extremely efficiently to get all the right deals across the line with Renato Sanches and long term target Virgil van Dijk linked with a move before deadline day.
