Liverpool and Man City set to fight for the 26-year-old in-demand La Liga star

MANCHESTER CITY are reportedly looking to complete a January swoop for Real Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez.

Pep Guardiola’s unbeaten City are flying high this season, winning 18 of their 20 games in all competitions.

Their 2-1 win over Huddersfield yesterday kept them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.

And the Sky Blues have also won five out five in the Champions League.

Despite their stunning run of form, Guardiola is reportedly still looking to bolster his ranks in the winter transfer window.

Transfermarketweb claim the City chief is ‘becoming more and more’ interested in signing Martinez in January.

The 26-year-old centre-back is said to have been on Guardiola’s radar back when he was Barcelona boss.

And it seems the Spaniard is still a fan of his compatriot.

Martinez is under contract at Sociedad until June 2021 and is also attracting admirer looks from Real Madrid, Roma, and Liverpool.

City do have mounting injury worries in defence.

John Stones recently suffered a hamstring problem and gone Benjamin Mendy in the treatment room.

There remain long-term concerns over Vincent Kompany, who has only just returned from a calf injury.

Martinez could be drafted in as cover should City suffer any further injuries or suspensions.
