Liverpool £40m Premier League target speaks on potential Anfield move

Abdoulaye Doucoure says he is entirely focused on performing for Watford after being strongly linked with a move away from Vicarage Road in the summer.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal were all said to be interested in signing Doucoure, the French midfielder who is valued at around £40million.

But 25-year-old Doucoure, who was Watford’s Player of the Year last season, stayed put and committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new deal until 2023.

‘There was a lot of speculation in the summer but I was focused on Watford and my football. I don’t think all the speculation was true,’ he said. ‘I’m very happy to have my new deal with the club and to be part of this project.

‘We’ve won four games [in a row this season] and I’m very happy here. I want to put my level as high as possible this year.

‘I was always focused on Watford.’ Watford have won four straight games this season but manager Javi Gracia says the Premier League will soon put the club ‘in our place’. Only two other teams – Liverpool and Chelsea – are also yet to drop a point this term.

‘When you start something you always think you will be good but you do not know if you will be able to achieve four wins in a row,’ Gracia said. ‘But we are in a good moment – we are enjoying it. We know in the future the competition will put us in our place.’
