Former Leicester City and Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage has suggested in The Mirror that Liverpool should have signed Michael Keane from Burnley in the summer transfer window.
Keane joined Everton from Premier League rivals Burnley in the summer transfer window.
According to The Guardian, the Toffees had to pay the Clarets an initial transfer fee of £25 million with £6m potential add-ons. in order to secure the services of the 24-year-old central defender.
The former Manchester United defender is one of the best in his players in his position in the English top flight, and he is only going to get better in the coming years.
Liverpool struggled defensively last season, and Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking far from great at the back this campaign as well, which could scupper their chances of winning the league title.
Former Birmingham City midfielder Savage has suggested that Liverpool should have signed Keane from Burnley before he went to their Merseyside rivals Everton in the summer transfer window.
“I don’t understand, for example, why Klopp didn’t go for Michael Keane when it became clear Saints weren’t going to play ball over Van Dijk,” Savage wrote in The Mirror.
