According to The Express, Liverpool are preparing a new summer bid for Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell.
The Reds have seen their title challenge falter in 2017, and whilst Jurgen Klopp’s men are still pushing for Champions League qualification, new signings are needed this summer.
Klopp needs to add more depth to his squad, and a position that Liverpool fans want to see improved is left back, where Klopp’s options are less than ideal.
Alberto Moreno has struggled since a 2014 move from Sevilla, leaving Klopp to switch James Milner – a midfielder by trade – to left back for the majority of this season.
The Liverpool boss may look to bring in a natural left back this summer, and The Express report that a new bid for Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell is in the pipeline.
Chilwell, 20, has come up through the ranks at the King Power Stadium, and after three appearances for the club last term, he has played seven games in all competitions so far this season as he offers cover for Christian Fuchs at left back.
An England under-21 international, Chilwell came to Klopp’s attention during his loan spell at Huddersfield Town last season, as he played under David Wagner – Klopp’s best man – and received a glowing recommendation according to The Telegraph.
It’s stated that Liverpool failed with a £7million move for Chilwell last summer, but with Klopp wanting a left back, he is ready to go back in this summer and finally get his man.
A long-term solution to Liverpool’s left back problems, Chilwell has a huge future ahead of him, and Leicester will certainly find it difficult to keep hold of their talented youngster if they suffer relegation to the Championship.
