Liverpool have to improve their squad this summer by signing top players and if reports in the media are anything to go by then Klopp has been given a huge chance to sign a proven quality star in the form of Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic.
The Croatian international has been influential for the Catalan giants since moving to the club from Sevilla but things may change for him in the summer transfer window.
According to Spanish source Don Balon, Barcelon’a priority this summer is to make Neymar’s dream come true by signing Coutinho from the Anfield club. The La Liga champions are aware that negotiations with the British giants will not be easy, therefore, they are ready to include a first team player and Rakitic’s name has come up.
Earlier this month, the former Schalke star signed a new deal with Barca on his 29th birthday. The contract runs until 2021 and has a huge release clause of €125million (Official FCB).
Rakitic mainly plays in the central midfield for Barca but does step up to help in the attacking third as well. This season, he has netted 5 goals and provided 1 assist in 23 league games.
Coutinho has quality and class but he has been inconsistent for the Merseysiders, as rightly claimed by Stan Collymore (Express). This season, Philippe has netted 6 goals and provided 5 assists in the league for the Reds. Since November 2016, the former Inter Milan playmaker has only scored one goal.
Not everyone at Barcelona sees Rakitic as an important member of the squad and he could be a decent option to lower Coutinho’s fee. However, not everyone agrees with this solution as well (Don Balon). We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the summer.
