Arsenal are in pole position to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, according to reports.
Havertz, 18, has scored seven goals in 51 appearances since breaking into Leverkusen’s first-team back in 2016 but the midfielder is being heavily linked with a move away in the summer.
Liverpool and Southampton are both keeping close tabs on Havertz but it’s understood Arsenal are leading the race to sign the highly-rated young German.
The Sun suggests Arsenal sent scouts to watch the youngster in action for Germany’s Under-19 side in their 5-2 defeat at the hands of Norway last week. It’s claimed the Gunners are preparing a move for Havertz at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
Havertz, who became Leverkusen’s youngest ever debutante at the age of 17, recently admitted that he idolises Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil.
‘I look up to Mesut Ozil. He plays football the way I like it,’ he said. ‘He’s always calm with the ball, never stressed. I love watching his games.’
