The German manager pounded through beer after beer and nearly fell off once or twice as he bathed in one of the most incredible atmospheres the city of Liverpool has ever seen.
It is no secret that Klopp likes a party – and needs little excuse for one – so you can imagine he made the most of his European triumph.
However, in a recent interview, Klopp revealed probably the biggest celebration he had came after Borussia Dortmund’s historic title win in 2011.
In a simply sublime interview on a new Amazon Prime documentary and retold by the The Sportsman, Klopp recounts one of the craziest stories you could ever hope to hear.
In fact, if anyone else on earth other than Klopp were to tell it, you would scarcely believe it happened.
“I was really wasted which may have been noticeable in some interviews,” Klopp began.
“And I don’t remember much that makes any sense.”
“I do remember one thing,” Klopp continued.
I’m not sure if I ever told anyone. I actually woke up on a truck in the garage. All alone. I remember that, but I have no idea about the hours before that.
“I woke up, climbed out of the truck and found myself in a big factory hall. Then I walked across the yard and saw the silhouette of a man.
“So I whistled because I can whistle quite loudly and I noticed the silhouette slowed down a little. So I waited and saw Aki Watzke (Hans-Joachim Watzke, Borussia Dortmund CEO). So Aki and I were the only people on this huge yard.”
Incredible – Klopp actually fell asleep on a truck only to wake up and find the only other person nearby was the club CEO.
However, the incredible tale gets even better.
Having wandered in to the road, Watzke and Klopp held up an old Mercedes as they looked for a lift back into town.
“Aki held up an old Mercedes on the road. It was a Turkish fella in a station wagon. And Aki says ‘Take us to the Italian’. “No I won’t drive you there. So Aki reaches into his pocket, finds 200 euros and says ‘You will.’ He sees the money, “OK”.
“Aki sits in the front, I sit back. I kept slamming my head into the side, I was a little tired. And I kept hearing ‘cluck, cluck, cluck’
What’s going on here? I thought I dreamed it. But I didn’t. The trunk was full of chickens.
That’s right, Jurgen Klopp paid €200 for a lift in a car full of chickens just hours after leading Dortmund to the Bundesliga title.
According to Watzke there were also three dead rams in the car, which Jurgen, who was still in quite a state, failed to even notice.
Eventually the two made their way through all the roadblocks – the town was in shutdown for the celebrations – before Klopp’s memory gives out and the story ends.
That is quite possibly the most bizarre story you will read today but picturing Jurgen hungover and sat in a car full of chickens is a simply hilarious image.
Klopp is just the gift that keeps on giving.
Never change Jurgen, never change.
