JURGEN KLOPP has revealed his Liverpool squad were delighted to hear Sadio Mane would be joining during the summer.
The Reds spent more than £30m to bring the forward to Anfield from Southampton, and he has since flourished.
Mane has established himself as a key member of Liverpool’s attack, with the Senegal international leading the way on seven Premier League goals.
Klopp has expressed his delight at landing the 24-year-old, having failed to get him while at Borussia Dortmund.
And the Liverpool boss has also hailed Mane’s attitude and openness to advice on how to improve.
Asked what had enabled Mane to make such an immediate impact on Merseyside, Jurgen Klopp said: “The quality of the player, the character of the team.
“They had really open arms for him from the first second they heard we were signing Sadio Mane. They were like ‘Oh! Okay!’ That helps.
“They were brilliant with him. The club, the atmosphere… That stuff helps, and a little bit of luck.
“It worked out that he scored in his first game with a goal like this (against Arsenal). Come on! In a game like this, it makes everything easier.
“Then there is his attitude. He is a really hard working boy. He is really open for advice.
“He wants each kind of improvement. He wants to do different things. He is good. He’s really good.
“The best news for me was that I could sign him. It was a mistake not to get him for Dortmund. The fact that I could get him a second time was good, really good.”
Liverpool will lose Mane to the Africa Cup of Nations next month, with his last game set to be against Sunderland on January 2.
But in the meantime, the ex-Saints man is gearing up for the Reds’ Premier League showdown with rivals Everton at Goodison Park on Monday (8pm).
