Jurgen Klopp finally speaks about his celebration that went viral vs West Ham

Liverpool sit with a perfect record in the Premier League after two games of the season, and they really made a statement in the opening weekend.

A 4-0 demolition job of West Ham at Anfield saw Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Daniel Sturridge all on the scoresheet.

The match also saw big-money acquisitions Naby Keita and Alisson Becker make their debuts for the Reds.

The former impressed in the middle of the park but the Brazilian goalkeeper had little to do between the sticks, instead showing off his technical ability at playing the ball out from the back.

But it was one man who stole the show – and he wasn’t even on the pitch.

After Mane put the home side two goals ahead of the Hammers, Jurgen Klopp brought out a strange double-fisted celebration, which was very animated and almost looked angry.

It didn’t take long for football fans to cotton on to the bizarre nature of his joy, in which several mocking pictures and GIFs were created of the eccentric German.

“It’s a GIF. You can send it as a message if someone is crazy celebrating a goal. It’s not too nice,” said Klopp about the mocking of his antics.

“When I saw it, I didn’t know it. I didn’t feel it in that moment that it looked that strange.

“I was a bit surprised. I believe it was the second goal. If you’re not happy happy about 2-nil a second before the halftime whistle then something is wrong with you.

“But if I could decide how to celebrate, it would look constantly completely different.

“So it happens to me still, even if I’m a little bit in an advanced age.

“It still happens. I’m not proud of it. But there are worse things in the world, obviously.”

Never change, Jurgen.

It’s not the first time he’s celebrated eccentrically, and it definitely won’t be the last.

But it’s just one of the reasons why Liverpool fans and many neutrals can’t help but love Klopp.
