Jurgen Klopp confirms “open” talks with highly-demanded midfielder

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed the club are still in talks with midfielder Emre Can over a potential new contract.

The Reds boss says the negotiations remain ‘open’ as the Germany international approaches the final few months of his contract which he signed following his transfer from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014.

The 24-year-old can already sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside of England, should he choose to. Asked for the latest on negotiations ahead of Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace, Klopp told reporters: ‘Where the situation is at, at the moment: open.

‘That’s what we [have] said before, nothing is decided, it’s open. We are in talks with him and it’s all good so far, apart from him signing a contract for us, that’s all. ‘No problem with that.’

Earlier this week, Can hit out at “false stories” which claimed he is demanding more than £200,000-a-week to extend his stay at Anfield With Liverpool yet to agree a new deal with Liverpool, Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich have been reported to be monitoring his situation.
