FENERBAHCE defender Simon Kjaer will be allowed to leave the club this summer, according to reports.
Turkish news outlet Fotomac claim the centre-back is on the market for around £10m. It’s suggested Liverpool and Chelsea are in the hunt – along with Valencia, Monaco and Paris St-Germain.
The Danish international was linked with a move to the Blues in January. But Fenerbahce strongly rebuffed claims that he was heading to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are riding high in the Premier League this season and look set for title glory. However, Antonio Conte is widely expected to strengthen his defence at the end of the campaign. And with John Terry confirming his upcoming departure from the club, Conte will need to source a suitable replacement.
Same here at Liverpool, as Mamadou Sakho will be sold in next transfer window, while Ragnar Klavan failed to make an impact at Anfield and there’s no denying the Reds need a central defender or two.
Yet when the fees begin to escalate, it’s important Jurgen Klopp is sure he’s getting a player who will really improve things at the back and won’t quickly turn into a high-priced flop.
The £10m-rated FC Midtjylland academy product, Kjaer is a European regular and understands what it is like to play for big clubs and have ambitions of winning trophies. The Premier League big boys need this more than anything else as their squad is currently shy of players who can become regular silverware winners.
