Jordan Henderson compared to Man United £52m signing

LIVERPOOL captain Jordan Henderson would get into the midfield of Manchester United, Arsenal or Tottenham.

That is the verdict of ex-Newcastle forward and Premier League pundit Micky Quinn. The Reds star signed a new contract this week, meaning he will stay at Anfield long term.

And while Jurgen Klopp has bedded him back in slowly after a long summer at the World Cup, Henderson remains an important member of his squad.

Liverpool’s 28-year-old started his first Premier League game of the season on Saturday in the 2-1 win at Leicester.

And he faces a battle to get in the Reds’ midfield with all their quality options on offer.

Naby Keita, Fabinho, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all in Klopp’s thoughts too, although injuries have plagued the latter two.

While title contenders Liverpool have maximum points so far, rivals Manchester United, Arsenal and Spurs have endured slip ups already.

Quinn believes Henderson would walk into any of their midfields, even if he is not guaranteed a place in Liverpool’s.

“Yeah I definitely think he’d get in the United (team),” Quinn said on talk SPORT, speaking with ex-Scotland striker Alan Brazil.

“They’ve been struggling. (In place of) Fred. I mean what’s he done? He got bombed at the weekend (against Burnley), he hasn’t settled in.

“I think he’s better than Herrera. (Nemanja) Matic? No I think Matic is probably (better), he’s proved he’s a better player, he’s won Premier Leagues.

“Spurs? Yeah. Well he got in front of (Eric) Dier at the World Cup so in my book he’d be in front of Eric Dier in Spurs’ team.

“City, who’s in there? Fernandinho, again he’s won Premier Leagues hasn’t he, so you’ve just probably got to give it to him, just to edge him.

“Oh yeah, me and you would get in the Arsenal team Al, especially in that midfield, definitely.”

Henderson is now away on international duty with Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
