Joe Gomez’s reaction to Richarlison’s horror tackle on Thiago Alcantara said at all

It’s been a pretty rough day for Liverpool.

A 2-2 draw away at in-form Everton wasn’t the worst result in the world, but the Reds were denied two precious points when Jordan Henderson’s dramatic late goal was controversially ruled out by VAR.

Sadio Mane was judged to have been in an offside position in the build-up to the goal, although the vast majority of football fans couldn’t understand why after seeing the lines on the TV replays.

Liverpool, incensed by the decision, have written to the Premier League demanding an explanation over the use of VAR during Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

They also want answers for the decision not to punish Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for the challenge which left Virgil van Dijk injured early in the first half.

Van Dijk, who went to hospital after the match, could miss the rest of the season if reports that the world-class Dutch defender has injured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament are accurate.

Another player who might be injured is Thiago.

The midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich last month, found himself on the receiving end of a nasty tackle by Richarlison during the closing stages of the match.

Richarlison, who has since apologised to Thiago, was shown a straight red card by referee Michael Oliver.

One replay in particular shows just how bad the challenge was.

It also shows Joe Gomez’s reaction. The defender knew immediately that it was a nasty one.

Gomez must have feared Thiago had broken his leg.

Remember, Gomez himself suffered a fracture of the lower leg while playing for Liverpool against Burnley in December 2018.
