JAMIE REDKNAPP reckons Liverpool must sign a midfield general this summer.
The Reds had a fine start to the season but have suffered a serious dip in form in recent weeks.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have lost four out of their last five games in all competitions.
Liverpool have won just one game in their last 10 encounters – their only victory coming against Plymouth in the FA Cup.
And Reds hero Redknapp reckons Klopp must buy a midfielder in the mould of Liverpool great Xabi Alonso.
“Liverpool look like they have completely run out of steam – and it is because they do everything at 100mph,” Redknapp wrote in his Daily Mail column.
“Everything has to get from A to B as quickly as possible. Their priority this summer should be to sign a midfielder in the mould of Xabi Alonso or Jan Molby, who can control the tempo of the game.
“Opponents are beginning to suss out Liverpool and Hull’s second goal on Saturday summed it up. Teams are happy to sit back against them – they know if they can beat the first press they can hurt Liverpool on the break.
“As our stats show, Liverpool have been allowed more of the ball in 2017 than in the first half of the season but have become far less deadly in attack.
“Even without European football Liverpool seem sapped of energy. I’m a big fan of Jurgen Klopp’s heavy-metal style but he needs to know when to change the record.”
