Liverpool looked like genuine contenders for the Premier League title during their 4-0 demolition of Arsenal back in August.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were sublime that afternoon and the Anfield faithful were hugely optimistic for the season ahead.
However, the wheels have well and truly fallen off since then. The Reds have picked up just one victory from six league matches since the win over the Gunners – against Leicester City in September – and were destroyed by Tottenham at Wembley this afternoon.
Goals inside the opening 12 minutes from Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min left Liverpool with a mountain to climb, although Mohamed Salah’s strike in the 24th minute gave them hope.
Dele Alli’s goal on the stroke of half-time, though, killed the match off as a contest. Kane then added gloss to the scoreline in the 56th minute with his second of the afternoon following a Simon Mignolet howler.
LOVREN ENDURED A NIGHTMARE AT WEMBLEY
No Liverpool player covered themselves in glory at Wembley, although Dejan Lovren’s afternoon was even worse than Mignolet’s.
The Croatian defender, following his role in Spurs’ first two goals, suffered the humiliation of being subbed off in the 30th minute of the match.
JAMIE CARRAGHER SUMS UP KLOPP’S BIGGEST PROBLEM
Following the two goals, Jamie Carragher took to Twitter and summed up Klopp’s biggest problem in one tweet.
“Problem under [Brendan] Rodgers was conceding goals,” the former Liverpool defender wrote. “4 out of the back 5 still Rodgers signings two years on that can’t be right.

Indeed, Mignolet, Lovren, Alberto Moreno and Joe Gomez were all signed by Rodgers.
Joel Matip, meanwhile, joined the Reds last year.
