Jamie Carragher spotted the sneaky tactic Spurs tried to use at HT v Liverpool

Liverpool really do look like serious Premier League title contenders.

The Reds faced their biggest test of the season against Tottenham at Wembley and Jurgen Klopp’s side passed with flying colours.

Goals from Gini Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino sealed an impressive 2-1 win, leaving Liverpool with 15 points from a possible 15.

It was a deserved victory, with Liverpool outplaying Spurs in virtually every department.

Virgil van Dijk was imperious at the back, James Milner was combative in midfield and Firmino was back to his brilliant best.

Liverpool’s first goal came courtesy of an error from stand-in goalkeeper Michel Vorm and his parry from a corner was expertly headed home by Wijnaldum.

It gave Klopp’s side a slender advantage at the break and Jamie Carragher spotted a very sneaky tactic from Spurs at half-time to try and get themselves back in the game.

He tweeted: “Spurs just watering the pitch in their attacking half?!! #SpursVLiverpool.”

While there is no video evidence, it’s unlikely Carragher would lie.

As it were, Spurs’ tactic certainly didn’t pay off, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side really struggling to deal with Liverpool in the second half.

On another day, a more clinical Liverpool could have had five or six.

The Reds now embark on a difficult run of fixtures, with Paris Saint-Germain, two games against Chelsea and the champions Manchester City all to come in the next two weeks.

But the level of quality and squad depth Klopp now has at his disposal, the German manager will be confident his team can pass all the tests.
