Jamie Carragher just destroyed Phil Neville with an epic insult after meeting Van Dijk

Premier League legend Jamie Carragher absolutely ruined former Manchester United and Everton defender Phil Neville on Instagram after meeting Virgil van Dijk.

Van Dijk, 26, last week became Liverpool’s club-record signing, joining from Southampton in a £75m transfer.

“I think there is a dearth of top-class centre-backs throughout world football hence why so many clubs wanted him and the transfer fee is so high,” said Carragher.

The Dutch defender was interviewed by Carragher on Thursday, ahead of Sunday afternoon’s mouth-watering fixture between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Van Dijk enjoyed a dream debut at Anfield on Friday night, scoring the winner at the Kop End in the FA Cup against Merseyside rivals Everton.

An avid user of social media, Carragher quickly forged a career in football punditry after hanging up his boots in 2013.

The 39-year-old spent his whole career at Liverpool, winning two FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Cup and one Champions League trophy.

The legendary Liverpool defender regularly takes part in social media banter with Gary Neville but spared a minute to destroy his brother and former United teammate Phil.

Carragher posted a photo on his Instagram page with Van Dijk at Melwood and Neville couldn’t resist poking fun at his former rival.

“U live at Liverpool’s training ground Carra?” Neville asked.

Carragher responded brilliantly: “always open arms for me here Philip, unlike you at Carrington after the f*** up you and Moyes caused.”

That’s about as brutal as it gets – there’s no coming back from that.
