Manchester United’s failure to sign Jadon Sancho could give Liverpool the perfect opportunity to swoop in next summer.
United have been interested in the Borussia Dortmund winger throughout the transfer window, but the club have remained firm in their £108 million valuation.
A deadline of August 10 was set for the deal but United were convinced the Bundesiga outfit would soften their stance.
The Independent have reported failure to strike a deal this summer could see Liverpool slide in to secure Sancho’s signature in 2021.
It is claimed that “many in Germany” see the Premier League champions as a likely destination for the 20-year-old, as the club have curbed their spending during the coronavirus pandemic.
While Liverpool have added Thiago and Diogo Jota to their squad, it is believed the fees are structured to be paid in instalments.
It means a big signing could be on the way next season, especially after a number of outgoings in this window.
Meanwhile, United have managed to add to their squad with three new signings in the works.
Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani are set to be confirmed imminently while a deal has been struck for Atalanta winger Amad Traore.
