Ian Wright says ‘complete player’ Naby Keita will be a ‘superb addition’ to Liverpool and the Premier League.
Liverpool agreed to sign Guinean midfielder Keita from RB Leipzig last summer and he finally arrived at Anfield in June.
Keita was one of the stars of the Bundesliga over the past two seasons and will become the first player to wear Liverpool’s number eight shirt since Steven Gerrard left in 2014.
A host of star names have joined the Premier League this summer – including Jorginho, Fred and Alisson – but Wright says he is most excited by Keita.
‘There are plenty of new faces to look out for – and the one I’m relishing watching most is Keita at Liverpool,’ the former Arsenal and England striker told The Sun.
‘Some say he’s the closest thing they have had to Steven Gerrard, but bossing midfield is tough enough without that tag, so let’s leave that one for now.
‘Yet he does look to be a complete player – fast, strong, can do the holding job or bomb forward and get goals as well. He will be a superb addition to Liverpool and the Premier League.’
Wright, who scored close to 200 goals for Arsenal, is also excited to see how Lucas Torreira fares at the Emirates following his move from Sampdoria. Torreira impressed at this summer’s World Cup and is expected to be Unai Emery’s first-choice defensive midfielder this season.
‘I’ll be keen to see how Torreira goes at Arsenal,’ Wright added. ‘They desperately needed some tough, solid protection for the backline for a while. He could finally be the answer.’
Liverpool kick-start their 2018-19 campaign on Sunday when they welcome West Ham to Anfield. Arsenal face champions Manchester City later that day.
