Sadio Mane has revealed that Naby Keita spoke to him about a move to Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have already agreed a club-record £48 million deal with RB Leipzig and the midfielder will join Anfield at the end of the season.
Mane and Keita were teammates at RB Salzburg for a brief period before the Senegal forward was signed by Southampton in 2014. But the pair have maintained a strong relationship and Mane has vowed to help Keita’s transition to the Premier League when he arrives next year.
‘He is a really special player and is like family to me,’ Mane said in an interview with Goal.
‘We were close at Salzburg and still keep in touch. I enjoy watching him and look forward to helping him again when he comes next year.
‘He asked me about Liverpool and I told him this is an amazing club with talented players, a great manager and lots of ambition. ‘The city and the people are really nice and he will feel at home here.’
