Hilarious Dirk Kuyt story of how Peter Crouch almost ruined his dreams of playing in Champions League Final

A story involving Dirk Kuyt and Peter Crouch always has the makings to be a classic.

An opportunity to turn a focus towards what a hero Kuyt was at Liverpool is one that we just cannot let pass by.

The Dutchman has shared an incredible story of how he almost missed out on playing in Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to AC Milan in the 2007 Champions League Final.

He told FourFourTwo magazine via the Liverpool Echo: “When we were in the training camp before the final, the squad went go-karting. I didn’t join in, as I wanted to rest a small injury, but I went along to watch and picked a safe-looking spot to stand beside the track with Rafa.”

“Out of nowhere, Peter Crouch drove straight at me at roughly 35mph. He couldn’t brake! The only think I could do was jump in the air, and in the end I just managed to jump over Peter, and he crashed into cardboard boxes behind me.”

“I was within a whisker of having my ankles torn to pieces, and would surely have missed the Champions League final.”

“Crouchy’s face was as pale as dear, he’d had some kind of blackout. Fortunately everything was all right.”

If only someone had caught it on camera.

It would have been a travesty had a man of his commitment, dedication and hard work missed out on such a prestigious game. We would have loved to have seen how good Kuyt would have been in his prime under a manager like Jurgen Klopp. The two simply go hand in hand in terms of their approach to the game.

Hearing from Kuyt is always great and comes as a nice reminder of his admirable service to this club.
