Highly-rated Liverpool defender completes move to English club

Corey Whelan has joined Crewe Alexandra on loan until January.

The Academy defender, who moved to Liverpool from Crewe at U10 level, is scheduled to return to the club on January 7 having spent just over three months with the League Two outfit.

A Republic of Ireland U21 international, Whelan was appointed the Reds’ U23s captain ahead of the 2017-18 campaign and made 11 appearances for Yeovil Town last term after moving to Huish Park on loan in January.

Whelan began his youth career at Crewe Alexandra when he was signed by Liverpool F.C aged 9 in 2007. Whelan made his U-18 debut against Manchester United F.C winning 4-0. He was a regular starter of the U-23 squad. Whelan is a regular starter of the Republic of Ireland U-21.

On 5 January 2018, Whelan joined League Two club Yeovil Town on loan until the end of the season. Whelan made his debut for Yeovil against Bradford City in the FA Cup third round, on 6 January 2018. Whelan scored his first senior goal against Fleetwood Town in the EFL Trophy on 6 February 2018.
