Former Liverpool goalkeeper sends positive message to Karius on Twitter

David James sent some supportive words to Loris Karius on Twitter after Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Sunderland on Saturday.

The Germany Under-21 international had to be alert throughout the Premier League clash despite Liverpool’s dominance in front of their own supporters at Anfield.

Karius produced a brilliant save to deny former Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar in the first half after rushing out to smother the South African’s close-range attempt.

The 23-year-old managed to keep successive clean sheets for the first time this season after Liverpool’s goalless stalemate with Southampton at Anfield last weekend.

In fact, Karius was the only Premier League shot stopper to keep a clean sheet in Saturday’s fixtures in the English top flight.

And James, who knows all about the pressure of being a Liverpool number one, took to Twitter to send Karius a congratulatory message.

Liverpool will host Leeds United in the EFL Cup quarter-final at Anfield on Tuesday night.

The Reds will return to Premier League action at Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium next Sunday.
