Football fans can’t get over what happened before Chelsea v Liverpool kicked off

Perhaps it’s the heat but unusual things tend to happen at the end of the Premier League season.

Last season we all saw John Terry given a guard of honour in the middle of the first half against Sunderland on his final appearance for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

And although we’re not quite at the end of the current campaign, there was another bizarre moment at Chelsea’s home stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues took on Liverpool in their penultimate home match of the season and we were treated to an appearance from the voice of boxing before kick-off.

Michael Buffer – famous for his catchphrase: ‘Let’s get ready to rumble!’ – read out the teamsheets shortly before kick-off and it felt rather odd.

The 73-year-old, who was in London following Saturday night’s fight between Tony Bellew and David Haye at the O2 Arena, also changed the wording of his catchphrase.

Instead of saying “Let’s get ready to rumble!’, he shouted “Let’s get ready for football!’

Now, while some football fans may have loved Buffer’s little cameo, most on social media found it all embarrassing and cringeworthy.

You can certainly understand where they’re coming from.
