Football fans aren’t happy with Jermaine Pennant’s nasty tweet aimed at Loris Karius

You’d have to have a heart of stone not to feel for Loris Karius after the Champions League final.

If Liverpool fans thought Mo Salah going off with a suspected dislocated shoulder was a bit of bad luck, then they had little idea of what was to come from their goalkeeper.

Two second-half howlers sandwiched a Gareth Bale golazo and Karius conceded afterwards that he had single-handedly cost his team the European title.

When asked for his take on his compatriot’s embarrassing mistakes, Jurgen Klopp was at least sympathetic.

“The second mistake is because of the first,” the Reds boss said, per the BBC.

“It’s really difficult to get rid of the bad thoughts in your mind. Loris knows it, everybody knows it. That is a shame in a game like this, in a season like this.

“I feel for him. He is a fantastic boy.”

It’s understandable that Liverpool fans were exasperated nonetheless, particularly as this was far from his first horrorshow.

There is no excuse for some of the abuse he has received on social media, however, and the vast majority of fans will have found the sight of him crying and saying sorry to the supporters in Kiev pretty heartbreaking.

What you certainly don’t expect is to see former Liverpool players taking aim at him, as all professional footballers have experienced the highs and lows of the game.

Jermaine Pennant, who was last seen playing for Billericay Town, has therefore been experiencing quite the backlash to this tweet:

“Gutted for the players and fans apart from the GK,” the winger wrote.
