Fans spotted what Mo Salah did immediately at half-time during Liverpool 3-0 Man City

Liverpool produced a remarkable 45 minutes of football to blow Manchester City away at Anfield in this evening’s Champions League quarter-final first leg.

Mohamed Salah – who else? – opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a close-range finish before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made it 2-0 eight minutes later with a long-range screamer.

Sadio Mane then sent the home supporters into dreamland by adding a third goal on the half-hour mark, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side wondering what on earth had just happened.

No further goals were scored before the half-time interval, much to Guardiola’s relief, but this was a near-perfect first-half performance from the Merseyside outfit.

The Reds have produced some special performances since Jurgen Klopp took the reins at Anfield back in 2015 but tonight’s display was something special.

Liverpool now have one foot in the Champions League semi-finals, although Klopp and his players will be taking nothing for granted ahead of what promises to be a tough second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

City’s players were all below par this evening and they will be determined to make amends next Tuesday night.

Salah now faces a race to be fit for the second leg after being subbed off with an injury early in the second half of tonight’s game.

The red-hot Egypt international took his tally to 38 goals for the season this evening and terrorised City defender Aymeric Laporte.

The France Under-21 international, who City signed from Athletic Bilbao in January, endured a torrid evening at Anfield.

Fans noticed that Salah, who comes across as one of football’s good guys, went up to Laporte as soon as referee Felix Brych blew the half-time whistle.

You can watch the video here – and football fans loved it, with many believing that Salah apologised to Laporte after roasting him for 45 minutes…
