Fans all make the same point about Salah and De Bruyne after PFA introduce new award

Liverpool vs Manchester City has easily been the most exciting rivalry of the 2017/18 season.

The two northern clubs have been the most entertaining sides in the Premier League, with all four of their games in all competitions providing some serious thrills.

City won the first 5-0 after Sadio Mane’s red card, before Liverpool got revenge by inflicting Pep Guardiola’s side with their first loss of the season, winning 4-3 at Anfield.

Then, the two teams met in the Champions League quarter-final in what will go down as one the most enthralling ties the competition has ever seen.

Jurgen Klopp’s men emerged 5-1 winners on aggregate, with Mohamed Salah’s two goals – one in each game – making him the favourite to be crowned PFA Player of the Year over Kevin De Bruyne.

Salah leads the Premier League charts for goals scored with 30, while De Bruyne leads the assist charts with 15.

The Egyptian has also broken some astonishing Premier League records already, scoring in 22 separate games and notching the most left-footed goals in a single campaign.

That’s why he’s the overwhelming favourite with the bookies.

Nevertheless, it appears as if De Bruyne may well get some serious recognition too, because the Premier League have decided to introduce a new award this season.

The Playmaker of the Year award will honour the player with the most assists, which will be De Bruyne unless Leroy Sane (12), David Silva (11) or Dele Alli (10) go into creative overdrive.

Seems a bit coincidental that the award is being brought in this year, doesn’t it?

Well, that’s exactly what football fans think and they let their feelings be known in the replies section.

It does seem odd.

Both players were also included in the PFA Team of the Year, with De Bruyne joined by a number of his City teammates.

Nicolas Otamendi, David Silva, Kyle Walker and Sergio Aguero all featured, however, Salah was the only Liverpool player.

Roberto Firmino and Andrew Robertson surely had a pretty strong case to be included.
