Fan will definitely disagree with what Steven Gerrard has said about Jordan Henderson

Whoever took the captain’s armband from Steven Gerrard at Liverpool was always going to have a difficult job to fill his boots.

When Gerrard left Liverpool for LA Galaxy at the end of the 2014/15 season, it was Jordan Henderson who inherited the role of skipper at Anfield.

Of course, nobody expected Henderson to produce Gerrard-like performances every week but many Liverpool fans will claim that he hasn’t done enough to warrant that armband.

The fact they have failed to win a trophy under his leadership certainly doesn’t help matters but does Henderson really deserve all the criticism he gets every match?

The midfielder has suffered a difficult campaign so far, being ruled out for much of it through injury. However, he returned to the starting line-up during Liverpool’s entertaining 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

And while most Liverpool fans won’t be too thrilled to see the return of their captain, one man thinks the Reds are better with him playing.

That man? A certain Steven Gerrard.

He’s gone against the opinion of the vast majority of Liverpool fans by claiming Henderson brings quality to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“The armband comes with big pressure and big responsibility, so Jordan probably gets judged differently to every other player – I did when I played,” Gerrard said.

“You don’t see that as being unfair, you just have to take it on the chin.

“I think we’re a better team with him in the XI, I think he brings an awful lot to the game that I appreciate as a midfielder.

“It’s one of these things, from game to game people change their opinions, it’s just part and parcel of being a player in this day and age with the social media and the attention on every single position.

“Players just have to accept it.”

And to prove that Gerrard’s opinion will go against what plenty of Liverpool fans are saying, take a look at some of tweets aimed at Henderson from Kopites recently.
