Liverpool faced their feeder clu… sorry, Southampton, in today’s third and final Premier League match.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were hoping to return to winning ways following last weekend’s frustrating 2-2 draw against Tottenham and didn’t disappoint at St Mary’s.
Liverpool took the lead in the sixth minute when Mohamed Salah fed Roberto Firmino following some calamitous Southampton defending. Firmino then produced an assist of the season contender for Salah to make it 2-0 shortly before half-time.
The Merseysiders had three former Southampton players in their starting line-up: Virgil van Dijk, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane.
They also had another two former Saints stars on the subs’ bench: Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana.
Much has been made of the bizarre habit that Liverpool have developed in recent years of raiding Southampton.
Aside from the five players in today’s match-day squad, Liverpool have also signed Nathaniel Clyne and Rickie Lambert from the south-coast club since 2014.
YOUNG SOUTHAMPTON SIGN WAS HOLDING HILARIOUS BANNER
Southampton fans are understandably sick of Liverpool and one of their youngest supporters was proudly showing a genius banner which some viewers noticed during the first half.
The banner in question said ’Born to play for Southampton. Then sold to Liverpool’.
Here’s another angle…
