Patrice Evra might be buzzing to be back playing Premier League football but he probably won’t be thanking David Moyes for handing him his debut against Liverpool at Anfield.
With the attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in irresistible form, you couldn’t blame Evra for fearing the worst.
And the Frenchman couldn’t help his West Ham side fall to a 4-1 defeat with Mane, Salah and Firmino all getting on the scoresheet, alongside Emre Can’s header.
But Evra was returning to the ground where he experienced one of the worst days of his playing career so far.
That came back in 2011, where he clashed with Luis Suarez.
The left-back accused Suarez of racially abusing him during the 1-1 draw, something that led to an eight-match ban for the then-Liverpool striker.
Liverpool then controversial defended Suarez throughout and even wore t-shirts of support for the Uruguayan ahead of their clash against Wigan.
So, when Evra made an appearance back at Anfield, the reception he received was always going to be interesting.
And Liverpool fans certainly didn’t forget.
They booed him throughout and even started singing Suarez’s song when Evra made a foul.
It was something that saw plenty of football fans on Twitter slam Kopites for their behaviour.
Check out the reaction:
Some Liverpool fans are actually shameless booing Evra all game and chanting Luis Suarez at him, no matter who you support don’t be a cunt and fall on the wrong side of racism

Liverpool fans chanting Luis Saurez songs at Patrice Evra? Pretty much sums up today’s game. Saurez racially abused Evra yet their fans defend him like he’s a club legend. Grow up. This doesn’t go for all Liverpool fans btw 🙃.

Liverpool fans taking the moronic booing of Ramsey by Stoke fans (for having the temerity to have his leg broken) to new levels with the Suarez songs aimed at Evra.

Liverpool fans relentlessly booing Patrice Evra inside the first 30 minutes – the victim of racist abuse, and now chanting Luis Suarez’s name, directed towards at Evra. You stay classy, Liverpool FC.

Apparently some Liverpool fans booing Evra, and also chanting the Luis Suarez song. Stop the world, I want to get off.

Liverpool fans booing Evra in the first half and chanting 'Luis Suarez' towards him has to be one of the pathetic things I have seen all season.

On the pitch, though, Liverpool will be very happy with their afternoon’s work.
They thrashed West Ham 4-1 and leapfrogged Manchester United in second place.
They can now sit back and enjoy United take on Chelsea, knowing that one – or both – of them will be dropping points.
