Everton legend Neville Southall just sent the best tweet to Loris Karius after CL final

It’s going to take a long time for Loris Karius to recover from his horror show in the Champions League final on Saturday night.

Liverpool fans have always had their doubts about the 24-year-old and in the one game they needed him to be on top form, he messed up not once, but twice.

Real Madrid’s opener in the 51st minute came from Karius rolling the ball straight into Karim Benzema’s path and it rebounding into the back of the net.

Sadio Mane then equalised before Gareth Bale’s stunning overhead kick made it 2-1, at which point Liverpool were still in the game.

But then, with seven minutes remaining of normal time, Karius flapped at a long-range strike from Bale to give Real a two-goal cushion.

Karius was to blame for the defeat, there are no two ways about it, and now he has wholeheartedly apologised to everyone at Liverpool on social media.

“Haven’t really slept until now… the scenes are still running through my head again and again… I’m infinitely sorry to my teammates, for you fans, and for all the staff,” Karius wrote.

“I know that I messed it up with the two mistakes and let you all down. As I said I’d just like to turn back the time but that’s not possible.

“It’s even worse as we all felt that we could have beaten Real Madrid and we were in the game for a long time.

“Thank you to our unbelievable fans who came to Kiev and held my back, even after the game. I don’t take that for granted and once again it showed me what a big family we are.

“Thank you and we will come back stronger.”

Karius has received plenty of messages of support and now former Everton goalkeeper Neville Southall has tweeted something very classy to the German (see below).

“I think even though it’s bad now you will be stronger because of it,” Southall tweeted Karius directly. “Think about it today then put it away, it’s done.

“Focus on the future and being best you can be. Go and prove what a great goalkeeper you are. Good luck.”
