LIVERPOOL have reportedly suffered a potential blow in their rumoured pursuit of Roma goalkeeper Alisson.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been heavily with a move for the Brazilian shot-stopper in the summer.
Simon Mignolet’s Anfield career appears to be over and Liverpool are desperate to improve their goalkeeping options.
Loris Karius has looked more solid in recent games but Alisson would be a marked improvement.
The bad news for Reds fans is that Roma are on the verge of convincing the stopper to sign a new deal.
According to Calciomercato, the 25-year-old has requested a pay increase to over £4m-per-season including bonuses.
Roma are aiming to raise their player’s release clause up to £80m to warn off any potential interest from big clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid also reportedly interested in Alisson.
Los Blancos are still targeting Manchester United’s David De Gea and Chelsea’s Belgian star Thibaut Courtois.
Roma goalkeeping coach Roberto Negrisolo recently called Alisson the “Lionel Messi of goalkeepers”.
“Is Alisson worth £50m? Don’t be silly, he’s worth far more than that,” Negrisolo told Il Romanis
“I don’t think many people have realised who Alisson is.
“This guy is a phenomenon. He is the number one of number ones.
“He is the Messi of goalkeepers, because he has the same mentality as Messi.”
